Lighthouse Mission's Food Outreaches bring donated food and clothing to communities in need across Suffolk County. Our aim through these programs is to meet the most vital physical, emotional, and spiritual needs for Long Islanders struggling with poverty and food insecurity. Lighthouse Mission's Food Outreaches are located in Bellport, Centereach, Central Islip, Coram, Patchogue, Port Jefferson Station, Riverhead, Rocky Point, Ronkonkoma, and Shirley.
Community Feedback: “My health issues were taxing and my everyday burdens hard to manage. Money, rent, bills, and food presented issues and anxiety. I was helped in many ways by finding the outreach food truck while living in Shirley. I am grateful for the good work you do and thankful for having your uplifting support when my life was in great need. I am humbled by the wonderful work of your volunteers. May God’s hand continue to guide your mission. Thank you wholeheartedly for being an encouragement, a kindness, and an outreach in so many fashions.” – Susan
The Refuge (Teens)
Lighthouse Mission's Teen Programs build mentoring relationships between local at-risk teens and the Mission's pastoral staff and program volunteers through a variety of after-school and weekend events. Our regular program times occur at the Mission's North Bellport facility year round, with special outdoor activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, and camping. We also co-host an eight-week Summer Internship program with the Department of Labor.
Community Feedback: “I really feel more comfortable with my son around Lighthouse Mission with Pastor Mike and Pastor Jim. He has grown up there. Also, I am seeing real change in him.” – Mother of Local Teen
"I can't miss Lighthouse – I've been coming since I was five. I never miss it, only when I'm really sick." – Local Teen
Lighthouse Mission's Mission Kids program is a free Saturday morning activity aimed at providing a fun and safe environment for children grades K-5 from local underprivileged homes and homeless shelters. The program incorporates games, crafts, a hot lunch meal, and special guest speakers in an effort to build self-esteem and promote social, emotional, and spiritual growth among these children as a foundation for their continuing growth through their school years.
Community Feedback: “I wanted to say thank you for teaching my daughter about God. There is a difference in her behavior (good).” – Charity, Mother of Local Child
In addition to its regular weekly Outreach and Youth Development Programs, Lighthouse Mission holds special programs at select times of the year to address specific needs in the communities where we operate. Through these programs we hope to serve the poor in unique ways that help to provide them with additional means of assistance, especially during the holiday and at back-to-school seasons. We partner with local schools and shelters as part of these events.
Since 1992 Lighthouse Mission has striven to improve the communities we serve in by ministering to individuals struggling with poverty, food insecurity, and addiction. Hundreds of volunteers serve their communities year-round by helping out at our programs. Our warehouse staff partners with the Department of Labor to provide temporary work and mentoring opportunities for individuals with work requirements or community service obligations.
Community Feedback: “Thank you so very much for blessing me with an awesome group of brothers and sisters to work with today. ... Everyone there was so polite and happy to help. I never met such caring, loving, considerate, big hearted brothers and sisters in my entire life. I feel so blessed to have had the strength to get up, take 3 buses and walk half a mile to meet such people.” – E. Rey, Warehouse Worker
