Lighthouse Mission welcomes volunteer groups of up to 10 people. For space and safety reasons, we cannot allow groups larger than 10 to serve in our warehouse.

Can I add volunteers to my group after registering?
Yes, as long as your total group is no more than 10 people. Please call the office with their names and to update your suggested donation amount in advance of your service date.

Since you will be working in an active warehouse and outside at a food distributions, please dress prepared to serve in outdoor weather - hot or cold. Please wear modest clothing that you don’t mind potentially ruining. This can consist of jeans, fingertip-length shorts, and full length t-shirts/tank tops (not cropped, low cut or with foul language or inappropriate messages). You MUST wear closed toe shoes- if you do not dress appropriately, you may not be able to work in the warehouse and asked to changed.

What should I do with my valuables while serving?
Please do not bring valuables, including jewelry, cell phones, headphones, music players, or other expensive items with you to Lighthouse Mission's programs. If you must bring these items with you, please leave them in a locked car. Lighthouse Mission is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

No. We do not allow the solicitation of churches, company, government, or non-profit services or goods (free or otherwise) of any sort at our programs unless the group has been pre-registered with our staff.

Do you provide food for volunteers?
We recommend that you bring food and bottled water with you. Optional food and drink can be provided for your volunteer team at an extra cost.

Will I be notified if a program is canceled?
In the event of severe weather such as snowstorms or hurricanes, Lighthouse Mission may cancel any of its programs. Please visit our website or our Facebook Page for notifications.

Safety Guidelines:

Is your warehouse safe for volunteers?
Yes, but certain safety rules are important to follow. The Lighthouse Mission’s Warehouse is active - there is constant movement of people, boxes and crates. We also have a forklift that is maneuvered by certified employees as well as large box trucks. These are heavy and potentially dangerous equipment. Please be constantly aware of your surroundings. Use of headphones in the warehouse is forbidden.

Are your food distributions safe for volunteers?
Our Mobile Food Distribution programs are run in an orderly fashion. In some cases, police park their cars at our locations to help keep everyone safe. That said, sometimes things are unpredictable. Please be alert at all times when serving, and leave any valuables at home or in your car.

Will our work involve heavy lifting?
Yes, there’s a little bit of heavy lifting. You will be working with boxes and cans of food. You should expect to lift up to 15 pounds. If you’re not able to lift that much, you can always ask someone for help.

Will I get dirty?
It is possible! You will be working in the warehouse going through produce, carrying boxes, and potentially doing yard work. Definitely wear clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.
Suggested Donation Guidelines:

Why is there a suggested donation for groups?
The suggested donation sponsors the food distribution you will be working at including the gas to get there and the items you will be distributing.

Raising money isn't easy! Any suggestions on how to do it well?
That’s a great question! Here are some ideas for your group to raise funds before your service date:
-
Have a bake sale at your church/business
-
Go around town and mow lawns
-
Have a fundraising car wash
-
Talk to family/friends/churches/coworkers and see if they will donate towards your service trip
-
Post on FaceBook about your trip

What sort of donations can we bring with us?
We are always in need donations! Especially helpful are the following types of items
-
Clothing
-
Blankets
-
Hygiene Products
-
Food (especially non-perishable items)

Please DO NOT bring any cooked food or leftovers, as we are not a soup kitchen.

Do you accept furniture, household items, or toys?
No. Unfortunately, our warehouse is not big enough to accommodate any donations other than food and new or gently used clothing.
